Since our founding in 2010, Wash Cycle IMG_0472.jpgLaundry has been part of a much larger (and growing!) movement towards a sustainable future in the city of Philadelphia.  At first, businesses like ours were thought of as outsiders.  We now live in a day and age with thousands of businesses in the city jointly involved in the movement, along with countless individuals as well. As evidence of how far we have all come, last Thursday, GreenPhillyBlog hosted the inaugural SustainPHL awards.  We were sharing space with several hundred of these businesses and individuals for a night to "honor city leaders and unsung heroes," the first event of its kind in the city.   It was flattering to be nominated alongside so many of our colleagues, clients, and course, our friends. As wonderful as the nomination was to us, the event itself was even more fantastic.  WHYY opened their main concourse to us and our friends.  To start our evening, we were treated to excellent local food and beverages from vendors like Philly Food Works, Good Karma Cafe, Vegan Commissary, Saint Benjamin, among many others.  It was an excellent opportunity to network and unite with the sustainable community we have here, and yet another reminder of why we do what we do. By the time the main event rolled around, it was clear that no matter the outcome, we were all winners in this space.  It became more of a showcase of the great things that are possible in this city with the right support 20160818_214642.jpgand initiative.  Everyone from activists to local business leaders and everything in between were well-represented and praised for their efforts.   We recommend heading over to GreenPhillyBlog's nominee profile page to read all of their inspiring stories (including ours!).
We were nominated as an Impact Business Leader for our efforts to preserve the environment while creating jobs for individuals returning to the workforce after incarceration, addiction rehabilitation, and those with a history of chronic unemployment.  We were nominated alongside United by Blue and Solar States, who have helped to organize cleanups and educate the community about sustainability practices. It was an honor to share the nomination with such worthy colleagues, and an even bigger honor to have been selected as the winner.   We proudly share this award with all of you, and look forward to continuing our efforts to make our community more sustainable and economical for everyone. We'd also like to congratulate all the nominees and winners, and special thanks to everyone at GreenPhillyBlog for organizing the event.  We're already excited about next year!  Cheers to a sustainable future, Philly.
