Meet Chad Bong. He's a massage therapist and acupuncturist at Philadelphia Sports Acupuncture.
Just like the name implies, Philadelphia Sports Acupuncture treats sports-related injuries and helps improve athletic performance through acupuncture and massage. Their office is right across the street from one of Wash Cycle Laundry's Philadelphia facilities, so Chad is used to seeing us around. We took some time with Chad to hear more about how he found Wash Cycle and how we took the worst part of his job out of his workday. Chad was folding his own sheets. Until he met Mildred.
Since Chad has been a massage therapist for 14 years, he's spent more hours than he can count washing and folding sheets. He used to spend time doing this laundry in the laundromat on South Street that Wash Cycle Laundry calls home. That's where he met Mildred who asked him for a little shoulder massage from all her towel folding.And Chad's a cyclist, too.
On his commute from home to the office, Chad caught up to one of our cyclists hauling laundry from other local businesses. That's when he decided to let Wash Cycle start washing and folding those sheets of his.
What laundry day used to look like.
Having a laundromat across the street from his office seemed pretty convenient for Chad. But laundry still took up valuable time from his day. He'd cross the street, put money in machines, come back to the office, forget about the laundry, go transfer from washer to dryer, forget again, go get the laundry from the dryer, and come back to have to spend time folding everything. Wait, isn't Chad supposed to doing massages and not laundry?So tell us again why Wash Cycle Laundry made sense to try?
"Hatred. Hatred is the biggest thing," says Chad. "Folding laundry was the worst part of my job." He honestly didn't realize that a laundry service would not be too expensive. "It seems like a lot of money." So he looked at the time savings and thought about cost analysis.Chad did the math.
"If I can treat just one more patient per month, that pays for the laundry," Chad explains. And he assumes that most people in his line of work would rather be treating patients that folding a fitted sheet (even though Mildred showed him how to do it!) "The laundry just shows up at my door.
